More About Simply Slings

My name is Jennie Paige and  I am the owner of Simply Slings. I operate Simply Slings out of my home while caring for my two little girls ages 4 1/2 and 2 with a boy on the way this summer.
I developed a passion for babywearing while I was pregnant with my
second child. Without the support of my family and wonderful husband Simply Slings would not exsist.

A friend of mine told me about how she used a Ring
Sling instead of carrying around the BIG HEAVY car seat that I had no intention of using with my second.

This sparked my interest, and I soon became a
fully devoted babywearer with a growing “stash”.
My passion for wearing my baby soon grew into a strong desire run my own business,
and help share my love for babywearing.

I bought Simply Slings as a semi-started business from a fellow WAHM on The Baby Wearer. I launched Simply Slings in November of 2006 and haven’t looked back since. Simply Slings has undergone a lot of changes and re-designs as we are ever growing and expanding. I can only hope to see more positive change and growth in the future as our first year in business exceeded all of my expectations thanks to our loyal customers!-YOU!

We have added more items to our line of Slings, Pouches, Wraps, Mei Tais, and Soft Structured Carriers. We have also added nursing shirts and covers and are always on the lookout for other great products to complement our selection

Simply Slings was birthed out of a sincere desire to help more parents and care givers keep their baby’s close and still be able to utilize their hands. There is such freedom knowing that you CAN do it all. Well, most days at least.

Please let us know how we can help you choose your first or fifteenth baby carrier today!

That's the fun part!

Thank you for looking and happy babywearing!

Describe your business.
I am the owner of Simply Slings and distribute various baby carriers and accessories. I am happy to sell ERGO’s, BabyHawks, HotSlings, Urban Pouch, Kozy Carriers, EllaRoo, Maya Wrap Ring Slings, ZoloWear, Storchenweige, Gypsy Mama, and of course Baby Legs! I also have an exclusive ring sling design by DivasnBabes as well. I have an online store and do a lot of local business. About 80% of my business is local actually. I love it because I get to see the smiling faces of the wearer and the baby - it makes my day to day work seem worth it all the while.

Tell us a bit about where you live.
I live in Frederick, Maryland and have for the past 3 years. I spent most of my life living in Gaithersburg which is only about 30 min. south. I am about an hour from our Nations Capitol and love that I can be close to the Mountains as well as the city. I loved staying in one place so long because by the time I was 7 I had moved 6 times and lived in 4 states, so staying in one place for so long was nice.

Tell us a bit about your family.
I have two young girls, one 3 ½ and one 11 months. I have been married for nearly 5 years and work at home with my girls. I am the second oldest of 4 kids and loved having siblings growing up. It was hard to be bored with such a big family!

How long have you been in business?
My business in still in its infancy. I have only been running it since October of last year. I bought Simply Slings from a momma here on TBW and it was already semi-started, so it was nice to have a jumping place to start from.

What inspired you to start your business?
I started my business because I basically wanted something to do - a challenge. I was buying so many carriers and wanted a means to pay for them myself. I thought it would be great to have a business doing something that I felt so passionate about.

What is the most rewarding thing about selling baby carriers?
I love owning and running my own business. It provides a sense of pride and accomplishment which I felt that I needed in my life at the time. Since opening I have been both astonished and pleased with it’s rapid success. A lot of it has to do with being in the area I live in. We have the largest active NINO in the country with meetings all over the area that I have the pleasure of attending regularly.

What is the most challenging thing about selling baby carriers?
I think that the most challenging thing about running my business, is knowing what and how much inventory to stock! My current challenge is actually making my website more search engine friendly.

How do you balance your personal and professional life?
Meshing my life with my business is an ongoing challenge. It is hard to define a line between the two because they compliment each other so well. I think that as my business grows I will better be able to separate the two-especially when my little one gets too big to be worn.

Describe a typical day in your life.
A typical life in the day of Jennie Paige is busy busy busy! Between making NINO meeting, visiting with my mom and friends, necessary work on the computer, making and receiving orders and taking care of my house and family I get tired! I try to have at least one day a week where I don’t schedule anything and spend the whole day with my girls and work on keeping up the house. As busy as it is, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I enjoy the change of pace and variety in my day - it keeps things interesting!

Tell us about your personal babywearing journey.
I sought out babywearing when I was pregnant with my second daughter Taylor. I swore to myself that I wasn’t going to lug around that big heavy car seat everywhere I went, and did NOT want to use the Bjorn as I did with my first one. I did not find it comfortable or easy to use. A good friend of mine pointed me to the Maya Wrap Ring Sling and I just couldn’t get the hang of it. When my daughter was about 3 weeks old I went to a meeting at my Birthing Circle and there was someone there who sold Mei Tais. Well, it was love at first wear. I was able to hold my newborn who cried every time I put her down. I quickly learned how to use my ring sling and fell in love with them too. The rest is history - a new obsession was born and I have cherished every moment of it. Truly.

Describe your favourite babywearing memory/moment(s).
My favorite babywearing moment was actually my first one, when it just clicked. I felt my little newborn snuggling against me with all her sweetness while still having the use of my hands to chase my toddler around! It was amazing really.

What do you see for the future of babywearing?
I think I started my business at the perfect time. I feel that babywearing is making an explosive renaissance in the US, helping parents and care givers to foster their relationship with our future. We are actually sort of late to the game so to speak in this country and am so pleased to see how rapidly it is catching on!
